Insulin resistance is a condition I’m very familiar with because it’s a battle I fight every day. Insulin resistance is where the body produces insulin, but it doesn’t use it properly. Your body will break down the food you eat, into glucose, which is then moved through the bloodstream to the hungry cells. Insulin is the hormone that is produced to help the body’s cells use that glucose (sugar) for energy.

credit: gabrielsaldana

When you eat, the glucose (blood sugar) rises and the body produces insulin to handle it. That insulin does two things.

So here are a few weight loss home remedies:

Drink a cup of Warm water and juice from one half lemon every morning as soon as you get up. Not only will this help curb your appetite, is will help reduce allergies, and will improve digestion.

Reduce your carbohydrate intake. I call it the no white diet. Avoid anything that is white, ie. Rice, potatoes, flour, sugar and milk and dairy products. By simply avoiding things that are white you are able to reduce your carbohydrate intake and lose weight.

Fill your diet with negative calorie foods. A negative calorie food is any food you eat that burns more calories to digest than you take in when you eat them. An example would be broccoli, which contains fewer calories than your body burns as it digests it. And while technically there are no negative calorie foods, you would be hard pressed to not lose weight eating these foods exclusively. Click the link for a list of negative calorie foods.

Do not eat any food after 7PM. Your body needs approximately 12 hours to complete a full digestive cycle. If you don't allow your body this time to digest you will develop acid reflux, a potentially serious condition as well as annoying, and will pack on the pounds. As you age, your body completes this cycle more slowly. So the older you are the more necessary completing this cycle becomes.

Jump start your diet with a reduced carbohydrate and reduced fat diet. One of my favorite diet 'beginnings' is The 3 Day Diet. This diet must be followed very carefully and is rather strict, but is easy and doesn't require any sort of special equipment or difficult calculating. (In other words, the diet plan is free

Eat a diet of at least 35 grams of fiber every day. The idea behind this diet is that if you fill up on fiber, you won't feel hungry (and so wont fill up on empty calories) and because fibrous foods expand once eaten because the fiber absorbs liquid, you will feel fuller than you would if you had just eaten the same amount of food or calories but without the fiber. (Having a chart of both high fiber foods and a food fiber and calorie chart will be helpful on this diet.)

And last but not least, drink 10 8oz glasses of water each day. If drinking 10 glasses of water seems a daunting task, you can always drink 8 10oz glasses of water

Any one of the above seven remedies will help you shed those excess pounds. However for an unstoppable plan of attack, as much as you are able, combine all seven of these ideas.

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2606/3709959426_72e49ede64.jpg" title="I'm on diet #2 by floodkoff, on Flickr" alt="I'm on diet #2 by floodkoff, on Flickr" width="200" height="300" / style="float: left; margin: 5px 10px 2px 0px;">I thought you might be interested in a new study done by Dr. Gary Foster, Ph.D., of Temple University. Dr. Foster and his team recruited 300 obese adults and followed them for two full years. Half the participants followed a diet low in carbohydrates and the other half followed a diet low in fat.

The results, after two years were that people in both groups lost the same amount of weight.

(But now read the really interesting part.)

The group on the low-carb diet enjoyed a significant decrease in blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides and had an increased in HDL (good cholesterol) of more than 20%. And this is not the first study of this type. In 2003, an almost identical study was performed and the results then were equally impressive and very much the same.

In the Temple study, participants on the diet low in carbohydrates were limited only as to their consumption of carbohydrates. There were no restrictions on the type of protein they ate or the amount of animal fat they consumed. They could eat all the animal fats they wanted.

So the real question is, would you rather lose weight and improve your health or simply lose weight?

For a diet low in carbohydrates that will fit your lifestyle take a look at these plans: the G.I. Diet (Glycemic Index Diet), The Diet Solution, the Idiot Proof Diet, South Beach Diet, The Mediterranean Diet and the Zone Diet.

It is false to assume that a diet to lose belly fat should rely mainly on fruits and vegetables. Dairy products, lean meat and seeds also have their role to play here. You also need to be aware of the foods that have a negative impact on your metabolism, creating the premises for fat storage. Commercials often persuade people to take up a number of diet to lose belly fat solutions. I tell you that you need to make informed decisions that suit your individuality, health condition and needs. Plus, you should never neglect personal preferences.

A diet to lose belly fat is one that aims at achieving overall body fitness, and its success depends on several factors.

In addition, because the air is usually drier at the elevated heights, you become dehydrated much more easily and there are some heights at which your body will have a reduced amount of nutrient absorption.

There are more severe symptoms such as loss of coordination, breathlessness and mental confusion which are beyond the scope of this post, and should you find you are suffering from any of these you should get to a lower elevation and get immediate medical attention. But we are going to assume we’re all talking about simple Mountain Sickness.

If you are one of the ‘lucky third’ who finds acclimatizing less than a snap, here are a few things you should do to help decrease the time it takes for you to be your old lovable self:

Load up on carbohydrate foods before you leave, and continue to priorities them when you're at higher altitude.

Drier air means you're at more risk of dehydration at high altitude. Drink more water!

Your body will need more calories than normal. Remember, it has to work harder to extract the oxygen you need. Add on extra carbohydrate foods and snacks.

Eat smaller, more frequent meals which allows for more constant fuel for your body, while not increasing your digestive burdens on the body.

Proteins are more difficult for your body to digest. Eat more starchy and sweet foods. While you are acclimating is not the time for low-carb dieting.

Vitamin E (tocotrienol), branch-chain amino acid supplements and digestion enzymes at each meal may be helpful.

Eat less salt. Salt will make you retain fluid and make your body work harder to stay oxygenated and hydrated.

Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates the body and being your body is having difficulty in this area to begin with, try to avoid making things worse.

Until your body becomes acclimatized, try to avoid strenuous exercise or putting any undue stress on the heart or lungs.

That means you've got to find a reliable eating plan that will both nourish your body while reducing that pot-belly and those love handles. Finding reliable weight lose information can be an absolutely discouraging endeavor since there are quite literally hundreds of weight loss plans on the market today that make all types of preposterous claims.

First, you need to find a healthy plan you can stick to. To reduce your overall body fat and keep it off, you need to find a healthy eating plan. It's tempting, when you're trying to lose weight, to skip meals to reduce your caloric intake, but a better--and easier--way to cut calories is to find a reliable diet that fits your tastes and lifestyle; one you can adopt for life. So to prevent or reduce excess weight around the abdomen, or wherever you're genetically predisposed to deposit it, you need a healthy diet.

Compare the different diets based on the type foods you enjoy, and the ones you already know pack on the pounds now. Don't be tempted by plans offering huge weight loss over a short period of time. A plan offering fast results is usually not a healthy one, and you want a plan you can stick with for the rest of your life. You want a healthy diet that will keep the weight off.

Once you start losing body fat, you can firm up your body by exercising. The main thing to remember though is that spare tires and pot-bellies indicate too much body fat. And losing body fat is the best (read only) way to get rid of love handles and to get rid of belly fat.

If you want to lose weight then find the right diet for you, and then get up off the couch and go for a walk, take a ride on your bike, or go to the gym. When you maintain a healthy diet and institute a regular cardiovascular workout routine, your love handles and belly fat will gradually reduce without any particular special exercise to get rid of them. So, there you have it: the skinny on how to get rid of love handles and belly fat.

There are hundreds of diets out there, and it can be mind boggling to keep track of them all. But whether you're trying to lose weight, or are simply wanting to stay healthy by eating a healthy diet, you're going to have to weed through them to find the one that's best for you.

The truth is, there are a lot of very healthy diets out there. And unless you have some underlying health issues that require you eat a certain type diet, probably the best all round diet on the market today is the The Diet Solution.

The Diet Solution is high in fruits and vegetables, low fat meat, fish and complex carbohydrates. And research shows The Diet Solution excels at maintaining your blood sugar at constant levels. And for those of you who are saying my blood sugar is fine, I'm not worried about it. It's those spikes in your blood sugar and consequently your insulin levels that make you so doggone hungry.

In addition to making you hungry, high blood sugar and caffeine levels as well as aged fats are the culprits when it comes to high cholesterol. And though your cholesterol levels may be fine now, as you grow older, it will become more and more difficult to maintain them. And after all, we're all about eating a healthy diet.

But The Diet Solution is not the only healthy diet around. All of the following diets are both reduced carbohydrates and reduced fat, which is the basic criteria for a healthy diet. G.I.
Ok, you know you need to be on a diet - I mean you really know you need to be on a diet, but this is about the 50th time this year you've started and you just can't stick to it. What can you do to stick to your diet, get the weight off and keep it off?

Dieting can be tricky, even for the most disciplined of us and sticking to a diet can take all the willpower you have. So it's best not to go on a diet. It's much better by far to make small but healthy changes to your diet and lifestyle that will accomplish the same thing - and make you healthier in the process.

The Attitude of Sacrifice

Another mistake would be to view your diet as a time of sacrifice. You won't allow yourself to eat any of the things you so enjoy until you reach your goal weight. A sort of penance you must suffer for having gained the weight in the first place. And this may work for you . . . and you may lose the weight successfully, but of course as soon as you reach your goal, you're gonna gain it right back when you allow yourself to go back to your old ways. It would be better to allow yourself to have a small quantity now and again rather than making it a forbidden food. Your diet should be more about learning a new healthier way to eat.

Goal Failure

Setting goals you can't reasonably achieve is detrimental to any diet. You can't expect to lose 3 years of weight gain in 3 weeks. Your goals should be realistic, specific and in writing. A great goal would be to lose one and a half to two pounds a week for the next month and then a pound a week thereafter. Then track your progress and you'll see yourself slowly but steadily progressing toward your goal.

If any of these scenarios sound like you, don't worry. The point is, you can begin again - now. It doesn't matter if you just ate a row of Oreo cookies; starting right now you can start eating healthy. Learn from your mistakes and your successes and don't use your mistakes as an excuse to give up. Your overall goal should be to become healthy. The great shape will follow. If you enjoy food in moderation and eat healthy; you'll meet and exceed your goals.
