The Atkins Diet is Low Carb  The Atkins Diet is a low carbohydrate diet.    The diet proceeds in phases - with the first and strictest, lasting two weeks. This phase is primarily to lower the dieters blood sugar; which serves to keep hunger and cravings at bay. The second phase, which is fairly easy by comparison, lasts until you reach your goal weight. The third and final stage is the maintenance phase.
